This chessmaster thing is really great. while it hasnt made me significantly better yet, it HAS taught me alot of things. I was wrongly taught that castling (thanks kenneth -.-) meant u switch ur king with ur rook. turns out, that is not the case. the rank (thats row to you, laymen) between the king and the rook has to be empty, both of them have to be unmoved. The king moves 2 steps TOWARDS the rook (occupying the knight spot, if its kingside, or the bishop spot, if its queenside) and the rook moves to the other side.
Also learnt about en passant. French for In Passing. Everyone knows thatpawns can move 2 squares on their first move. But en passant means, if an enemy pawn is in a position that is able to capture a piece on the second square, then he can en passant it. That was a relatively bad explanation.
here we go. Better explanation here, though he pronounced the "en" wrongly, its supposed to be read as "on" not "in", but thats french for u =/
